Die Installation von Iryna Yeroshko ist eine visuelle Darstellung des Krieges Russlands gegen die Ukraine.
Wenn Städte und Dörfer bombardiert werden durch die russische Armee, wird oftmals der Strom entzogen. Straßen sind zerstört, Zugänge zu den Städten sind blockiert, also erstellen die Leute Listen, um über ihre Lieben zu informieren und über den Verbleib derjenigen, die nach ihnen suchen könnten. Tausende von Listen befinden sich im Internet. Diese Listen werden erstellt, um die Existenz von Personen zu dokumentieren in der Hoffnung, dass ihre Verwandten sie sehen werden. Nur wenige Menschen können diese Listen tatsächlich lesen und entschlüsseln.

Iryna Yeroshko's installation is a visual representation of Russia’s war against Ukraine. When the Russian army bombs and then occupies a city or village, it often becomes stripped of electricity. Often the roads are destroyed, the entrances to the city are blocked, so people create lists to inform about their whereabouts those, who might be searching for them. Thousands of lists are floating through the Internet. These lists are made to document people’s existence with the hope that their relatives will see it. To make a list is an act of taking at least some control in an uncontrollable situation. Very limited amount of people can actually read and decode the message and purpose of the list. If one is searching for someone, he or she has to look through thousands of such lists. One can analyze the papers, the handwriting, the composition, light and little details that speak more than words.
“Traces” is a hand stitched map that shows the deportation of millions of Ukrainians into the Russian Federation.
